ORGANIC FARMING
COMMITMENT TO ORGANIC FARMING AND PRODUCTS
Most cocoa trees begin to yield pods at peak production levels by the fifth year, expect 20 to 50 seeds (or beans) per pod, depending on variety. The soil on cocoa plantations should be deep, well-drained, and have sufficient water-retaining capacity. The pH-value should lie between 4.0 and 7.5, whereby care must be taken that sufficient organic material is available.
Fermentation is critical, lasting three to seven days. This produces the marvelous chocolate flavor when the beans are roasted.
Abigrow understands the hazards of chemicals and its effects on our food products, that’s why we are committed to organic and biologic (chemical-free) agricultural products, and teaches other cocoa farmers to practice organic cocoa farming method.
Organic agriculture is a production system that sustains the health of soils, ecosystems and people. It relies on ecological processes, biodiversity and cycles adapted to local conditions, rather than the use of inputs with adverse effects. Organic agriculture combines tradition, innovation and science to benefit the shared environment and promote fair relationships and a good quality of life for all involved.
